Frequently Asked Questions
Is 10 to 15 minutes really enough time for a family beach session on 30A?
Yes, and here is the honest answer, it depends entirely on what you are hoping to walk away with.
The Half Beach Session is designed for families who want a clean, polished set of classic posed portraits to mark their vacation on 30A. In 10 to 15 minutes, I move your family through the most important groupings efficiently: full family together, kids as a group, parents with kids, and individual kids as time allows. After 10 years of shooting families at Rosemary Beach, WaterColor, Seaside, Alys Beach, and the full Emerald Coast, I know exactly how to pace a short session so nothing feels rushed and nothing important gets missed.
Where the Half Session is not the right fit is if you are hoping for relaxed storytelling images, beach play shots, extended candids, or those slow emotional in-between moments. That style needs room to breathe, and that is what the Full Session and Sunrise/Sunset Session are built for. Not sure which one fits your family? Send me a message and I will point you in the right direction.
What specific shots and groupings are covered in a Half Beach Session?
The Half Beach Session covers your core family unit and the combinations that matter most:
Full family together
All kids together
Individual kids
Parents with kids
Mom with kids and dad with kids, as time allows
Candid movement and natural moments woven throughout
After 10 years of shooting authentic family portraits along 30A, I know how to move through a short session and still deliver a gallery you are genuinely proud of. Whether you are staying in WaterColor and want that lush dune grass backdrop, or in Rosemary Beach where the white brick architecture frames your family beautifully, I know exactly where to position you to get the most out of every minute.
Is the Half Beach Session a good fit for families with toddlers or young kids?
It is actually one of the strongest options for toddlers, and here is why: it moves fast, which works entirely in your favor when you have a two or three-year-old with a four-minute cooperation window.
The session is focused on traditional posed portraits with quick transitions between groupings. We are capturing smiles and connection before anyone melts down, and there is very little standing around waiting. After years of shooting families with young kids at Blue Mountain Beach, Seagrove Beach, and Grayton Beach, I have gotten really good at reading when a toddler is about to hit a wall and pivoting before it happens.
If your goal is more about capturing genuine movement, beach play, and those candid giggles and snuggles, the Full Beach Session or Sunrise/Sunset Session gives us the time to let those unfold naturally. I am always happy to help you think through which session actually fits your family before you book.
Does the Half Beach Session include sunrise on 30A?
No. The Half Beach Session is scheduled at 8am or 9am only. You still get beautiful early morning light before the crowds arrive and before the Gulf sun gets harsh, which is especially important at high-traffic beaches like Seaside and Rosemary Beach where parking and beach access fill up fast.
Sunrise is a completely different experience and it is reserved exclusively for the Sunrise/Sunset Session. Along the 30A corridor in peak season, actual sunrise happens before 6am. The beach is empty, the light is cinematic and soft, and there is genuinely nothing else like it. If you have seen those dreamy golden-tone images shot at the water's edge at dawn near Inlet Beach or Watersound Beach, that is the Sunrise Session. The Half Session does not offer that look, but the morning light at 8 or 9am is still genuinely lovely and photographs beautifully along the Emerald Coast. Summer sunrise spots fill fast, so if that is what you are after, DM me SUNRISE and I will send you what is available.
How is the Half Beach Session different from the Full Beach Session on 30A?
The honest difference is time, depth, and the kind of experience your family is looking for.
The Half Beach Session is 10 to 15 minutes with 10 to 15 images. It is focused on your immediate family and the classic posed groupings, and it is efficient by design.
The Full Session is 30 minutes and 30 images. That extra time gives us room to cover extended family combinations, work through more natural storytelling moments, and let the session develop at a relaxed pace. It is a better fit for larger families, families with teenagers, anyone who wants variety, or families who want the experience to feel unhurried. At locations like WaterColor or Alys Beach, the Full Session also gives us time to move between backdrops, which is something the Half Session does not have room for.
Both packages deliver the same timeless beach memories and polished coastal gallery. The difference is simply how much time, variety, and breathing room you want.
Can I upgrade from a Half Beach Session to a larger package after I book?
Yes, absolutely. If you book the Half Session and later decide you want more time, more variety, or the full, sunrise or sunset experience, just reach out before your session and I will make it work based on availability. Upgrades are common, especially when families arrive on 30A and realize they want more than they originally planned. The earlier you let me know, the easier it is to adjust the schedule and make sure the experience is exactly what you are hoping for.
How far in advance should I book a Half Beach Session on 30A?
Book as early as you possibly can, ideally when you lock in your travel dates. Sessions along 30A fill up fast, especially in spring, summer, and fall. I keep my calendar intentionally limited so that every family gets a focused, elevated experience rather than a back-to-back-to-back situation, which means spots go quickly.
Peak weeks at Rosemary Beach, Seaside, and WaterColor often book out months in advance. That said, last-minute openings do come up. If your trip is already close, send your dates anyway and I will tell you exactly what I have. The worst I can say is I am fully booked and help point you toward another option. Hit the link in my bio to check availability or send me your dates directly.
How much does a Half Beach Session on 30A cost and what is due at booking?
The Half Beach Session is $500 total. The $250 retainer holds your date, with the remaining $250 due before your session. If you are booking within 30 days of your session date, the full $500 is due at booking. There is no retainer split for last-minute bookings.
What that covers: 10 to 15 professionally edited digital files with full print release, delivered to your private online gallery within 6 weeks of your session. Up to 6 people are included. Additional guests beyond 6 are $50 per person. You are getting over a decade of experience shooting natural light photography along the 30A and Emerald Coast, a photographer who knows every beach access point from Inlet Beach to Destin, and a gallery you will actually print.
Where along 30A and the Emerald Coast do you shoot Half Beach Sessions?
All of it. I shoot Half Beach Sessions along the full 30A corridor and the broader Emerald Coast: Rosemary Beach, Alys Beach, Watersound Beach, Inlet Beach, Seacrest, Seaside, WaterColor, Seagrove Beach, Grayton Beach, Blue Mountain Beach, Gulf Place, Santa Rosa Beach, Dune Allen, Destin, Miramar Beach, and Panama City Beach.
Most families let me choose the specific beach access point based on where they are staying and the backdrop that is going to work best for their session. If you are in Rosemary Beach, I know exactly where to position your family to get that iconic pastel townhome backdrop without tourist foot traffic in the background. If you are in WaterColor or Seagrove, I know the dune paths and the morning light patterns that make those beaches especially beautiful. If you have a specific beach in mind, mention it when you reach out and we will figure it out together.
What should my family wear to a Half Beach Session on 30A?
Coordinating, not matching. Think colors that complement each other and read beautifully against white Gulf sand and blue-green water: soft neutrals, warm whites, sandy tones, muted blues, sage green, and earthy terracotta. Avoid neon, busy patterns, and anything with large logos. They compete with the landscape and date your images faster than anything else.
Flowy fabrics move naturally in the salt breeze and photograph effortlessly. Layers add visual interest without feeling overdone. If you are unsure, I have a full 30A style guide on the blog that walks through exactly what to wear by session type, how to build a cohesive family look, and where to shop if you are pulling pieces together last minute. I am also happy to give real feedback on your outfit plan before your session, just send me a photo of what everyone is planning to wear.
