Frequently Asked Questions

Where do you photograph on 30A and the Emerald Coast?

All along the corridor…Rosemary Beach, Alys Beach, Seaside, WaterColor, WaterSound Beach, Seagrove Beach, Blue Mountain Beach, Grayton Beach, Gulf Place, Santa Rosa Beach, Inlet Beach, Miramar Beach, Destin, and Panama City Beach. After 10+ years on these beaches I know exactly which access points have the best light at each time of day, where parking is easy, which beaches stay quiet during peak season, and where to position your family for the most beautiful backdrop available. When you book I ask where you are staying and I recommend the best spot for your session type. You do not have to figure any of that out yourself.

When should we book our session?

As early as you possibly can, especially for sunrise and sunset. There is only one sunrise and one sunset each day and those spots go fast. Spring break, summer, and fall travel weeks along 30A book out weeks in advance. I have had families reach out mid-week for that weekend's sunset and find nothing left for their entire trip. If your travel dates are set, reach out the moment you confirm your vacation. Morning sessions have a little more flexibility but even those fill during peak season. DM me SUNSET or SUNRISE on Instagram to check availability fast.

How much do beach photography sessions on 30A cost?

Sessions start at $500 for a Half Beach Session — 10 to 15 minutes, 10 to 15 fully edited images, perfect for a quick and beautiful set of family portraits. Full Beach Sessions are $700 for 25 to 30 minutes and 25 to 30 images. Sunrise and Sunset Sessions are $900 for 40 to 60 minutes and 40 to 60 images with a 2-week gallery turnaround. Every package includes fully edited images, a print release, a private online gallery, and a style guide. No hidden fees, no surprise charges at delivery. A $250 retainer holds your date, with the remaining balance due before gallery delivery. Sessions booked within 30 days of your session date are paid in full at booking.

What is the difference between the Half, Full, Sunrise, and Sunset Sessions?

The Half Beach Session is the right choice if you want beautiful portraits without the full session commitment…quick, joyful, and still delivers the real thing. It runs 10 to 15 minutes and includes 10 to 15 images, available at 8am or 9am only. The Full Beach Session at $700 gives you 25 to 30 minutes and 25 to 30 images, with morning or early evening availability, long enough for posed portraits and kids in the water. The Sunrise and Sunset Sessions are the most requested for a reason. Forty to 60 minutes, 40 to 60 images, the most cinematic light of the day, and a 2-week gallery turnaround. If you are not sure which is right for your family, mention your group size and ages when you reach out and I will point you in the right direction.

Should we choose sunrise or sunset?

Both are beautiful and both are genuinely different experiences. Sunrise means an empty beach, cool air, soft pastel light that moves from warm gold to airy coastal blues, and a session that wraps up in time for breakfast. It is especially great for families with toddlers and anyone visiting during the heat of summer. Sunset gives you that warm cinematic golden light you see all over Pinterest like rich, glowy, and dramatic as the sun dips behind the dunes. It is the most requested session I offer and the one that books out the fastest. If you can only do one, look at both galleries and let the images decide for you. DM me SUNRISE or SUNSET on Instagram and I will tell you what is still available during your trip.

What should we wear?

Every client gets a full personalized style guide after booking with specific guidance for their family's look, the beach location, and the time of day. The short version: soft coordinated tones in creams, blushes, sage greens, warm whites, and light neutrals photograph beautifully against the Emerald Coast. Avoid bright white, neon colors, and busy patterns that compete with the scenery. Flowy dresses and linen fabrics are especially stunning in morning and evening light. The style guide takes all the guesswork out of it so you can just focus on showing up and enjoying the session.

Do you guide posing or do we have to figure it out?

I direct everything. You show up, I take care of the rest. I give clear, natural direction throughout the session, down to where to put your hands and how to angle toward each other while keeping it relaxed and easy enough that nobody feels stiff or staged. The goal is always to capture how your family actually feels about each other. The laughing, the kids being kids, the in-between moments that end up being everyone's favorites. After 10+ years photographing families on these beaches I know exactly how to get there without it ever feeling like a photo shoot.

How many images will we receive?

Half Beach Sessions include 10 to 15 fully edited images. Full Beach Sessions include 25 to 30 images. Sunrise and Sunset Sessions include 40 to 60 images. Every single image in your gallery is fully edited in my signature warm natural style with a print release included. You will not receive a giant dump of unedited files — every image in your gallery is one worth keeping.

How long until we receive our photos?

Sunrise and Sunset Session galleries are delivered within 2 weeks of your session. Full Beach Session galleries are delivered within 1 month. Half Beach Session galleries are delivered within 6 weeks. All galleries are delivered through Pic-Time which is password protected, easy to share, and simple to download. If you have a specific deadline like holiday cards or a birthday, mention it when you inquire and I will do my best to work with your timeline.

What happens if it rains on our session day?

Florida coast weather moves fast and most showers clear quickly. I monitor the forecast closely in the days leading up to your session and communicate early if we need to adjust timing or shift to a different day. Overcast skies actually create soft, even, incredibly flattering light, some of my most beautiful gallery work came from mornings and evenings that looked questionable on paper. In 10+ years of shooting on these beaches I have only had a handful of sessions fully rained out. Flexibility and early communication almost always save the day.

What if someone in our group is late?

Because sessions are built around the sun, timing matters especially at sunrise and sunset when the light changes fast. If you are running behind, we photograph with the remaining time in your session. I always send clear instructions in advance about where to meet, where to park, and what to expect so the start feels smooth. Planning to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early is always a good idea, especially if you have young kids who need a few minutes to settle in.

Can we add grandparents or extended family?

Yes. Every session includes up to 6 people in the base price, and additional family members are $50 per person with no hard cap on group size. For larger multi-generational groups or multiple families traveling together, I offer dedicated group session pricing that allows time for the full group together plus individual family units separately. I have been photographing large multigenerational families along 30A for years and know exactly how to keep everyone organized without it feeling chaotic. Reach out with your group size and I will recommend the right session type.

Do you photograph at private beach houses or rental communities?

All sessions are held at beach access locations rather than private rental properties. The light, the backdrop, and the space to move freely are all better at the beach, and meeting at a consistent location keeps everything running smoothly for every family. If you are staying in a private community along 30A I can advise you on nearby public access points and help you find the best spot close to where you are.

Do you need permits to photograph on 30A beaches?

I handle all of that. I stay current on local rules and regulations for every beach along the Emerald Coast and I choose locations that keep your session uninterrupted and completely stress-free. You do not need to research permit requirements or worry about being asked to move mid-session. After 10+ years shooting on these beaches I know exactly where we can be and how to keep everything running smoothly.

Can we bring our dog?

Yes, as long as the beach access we are using allows pets. Many sections of 30A and the Emerald Coast have specific rules about dogs on the beach, so I confirm ahead of time based on your location. If your dog is part of the family they are absolutely welcome just bring a leash, water, and an extra set of hands to help between shots so we can keep the session moving.

What time of year is best for beach photos on 30A?

Honestly there is no bad time. Spring brings soft breezes, mild temperatures, and pastel skies that are especially beautiful with younger kids. Summer is peak season with longer daylight, warm sunsets, and vibrant color, it books out the fastest and for good reason. Fall is a local favorite…quieter beaches, golden light, and comfortable evenings that produce some of the richest galleries I shoot all year. Winter brings moody skies and calm uncrowded beaches that photograph beautifully for a more editorial feel. The right season depends on your family's travel dates and the aesthetic you are after. If you are unsure, reach out and I will help you decide.

Do you photograph weddings and proposals on 30A?

Yes. Proposals and intimate coastal weddings are some of my favorite things to document. Whether you are planning a Rosemary Beach proposal, a small ceremony on the WaterColor shoreline, or a private vow exchange along 30A, I approach it with the same warm direction and editorial eye I bring to every family session. For larger weddings I offer curated collections and can walk you through timeline, lighting, and location specifics for the beaches here.

Who photographs my session — you or Makayla?

Both Lisa and Makayla are photographers with 10+ years of experience on the Emerald Coast, and the editing style, posing approach, and gallery aesthetic are completely consistent across every session we shoot. When you book I will let you know who is scheduled for your date. For larger or extended family sessions we sometimes work together as a team, which means more coverage and more of the real moments captured.

What makes 30A Beach Photographer different from other photographers on the Emerald Coast?

Ten years on these specific beaches. That is the honest answer. I know where the light falls at Rosemary Beach at 7am. I know which access point at Grayton Beach keeps you out of the crowd even on a packed summer Saturday. I know how the dunes at WaterSound frame a family differently than the open shoreline at Miramar Beach. I know which spots at Alys Beach give you that iconic white architecture backdrop without the tourist foot traffic. Generic beach photography is available everywhere along 30A. What I offer is location knowledge, 10+ years of natural light expertise, and a session experience that feels genuinely effortless for you and your kids. The galleries speak for themselves. Come look and then decide.
