Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I choose a Sunset Session over a morning session?
Sunset is the most cinematic time of day on the Emerald Coast, and it's the session most families come back to book year after year. The light starts warm and golden and slowly shifts into soft pastel tones that are genuinely flattering on every skin tone and every age, toddlers through grandparents. With 10+ years of shooting along 30A, I can tell you that no two sunsets are alike, and that unpredictability is exactly what makes these galleries feel alive. If you want the kind of beach photos you see pinned on Pinterest and saved on Instagram…warm, editorial, emotional, the Sunset Session is your session. Summer sunset spots fill up fast, so lock in your date before you lose it. DM me SUNSET to check availability.
How long does a Sunset Session last?
Sunset Sessions run 40 to 60 minutes, which gives us enough time to move through the full experience…posed portraits, real candid moments, the laughing and splashing and in-between stuff that ends up being everyone's favorite images. I know exactly how the light shifts at each beach along 30A, whether we're at WaterColor, Rosemary Beach, Grayton Beach, or MiramarBeach, and I plan the pacing accordingly so we're using every single minute of golden hour. Kids have time to warm up, and nobody feels rushed.
How many images will we receive from our Sunset Session?
Your gallery includes 40 to 60 fully edited digital images with a print release. The variety that sunset provides wide scenic shots, tight emotional moments, candid movement, group portraits which means your gallery will cover everything. Every image is edited in my signature warm, natural style that reflects the actual light and color of the Emerald Coast. Your gallery is delivered through Pic-Time within two weeks of your session.
Who is the Sunset Session best for?
Honestly, almost everyone. Families with young kids do beautifully because the activity of the beach keeps little ones engaged. Teens and older kids thrive in the relaxed, natural pacing. Multi-generational families, grandparents, cousins, the whole crew vacationing together, get the full story told in one session. I photograph families all along 30A, from Rosemary Beach and Alys Beach to Seagrove Beach, Blue Mountain Beach, WaterSoundBeach, and Inlet Beach, and the sunset session gives me enough time to capture the big group shots and the small, quiet in-between moments that make a gallery feel complete. Couples and maternity clients book sunset too, the light is just that good.
Can we add grandparents or extended family members?
Yes, and I love a big family session. The Sunset Session includes up to six people in the base price. Additional family members are $50 per person, and there is no hard cap on group size. I have photographed large multi-family reunions along 30A for years and know how to keep everyone organized without it feeling chaotic. If you are planning a big group, just mention it when you reach out so I can plan the timing and location accordingly.
What does the sunset light actually look like in photos?
The first part of golden hour gives you that warm, glowy, almost bronzy light that wraps around faces and makes everyone look their best. As the sun gets lower, it shifts into softer, cooler pastels think pinks, lavenders, soft blues especially when there are clouds. I have been shooting sunsets on these beaches for over a decade and I know which beaches catch the best dune silhouettes, which access points face west for maximum color, and how to position your family to make the most of whatever the sky gives us. Natural light photography on the Emerald Coast is what I do, and sunset is where it shines.
How far in advance should we book a Sunset Session?
As early as you possibly can. Sunset is limited to one session per evening, which means once it is gone, it is gone. Spring break, summer, and fall holiday weekends book out weeks in advance. If your travel dates are already set, reaching out the moment you confirm your trip gives you the best shot at your preferred evening. Families who make this their annual 30A vacation tradition often book their next year's session before they even leave the beach. DM me SUNSET to check what is still open.
Where do you shoot Sunset Sessions on 30A?
I photograph all along the 30A and Emerald Coast corridor, and I will recommend the best location based on where you are staying. Families in Rosemary Beach and Alys Beach get the benefit of those iconic white architecture backdrops paired with the Gulf. WaterColor and WaterSound Beach offer quieter, less crowded shoreline with incredible dune access. Grayton Beach and Blue Mountain Beach have some of the most dramatic natural dune landscapes on the entire coast. Seaside, Seagrove Beach, and Gulf Place offer a mix of coastal cottage character and open shoreline. I know the parking, access points, and crowd patterns at every single one of these beaches, and I use that knowledge to put your family in the right spot at the right moment.
What should we wear for a Sunset Session?
Sunset light is warm, so I recommend leaning into that with soft, coordinated tones like creams, blushes, warm whites, sage greens, light terracotta. Avoid bright white (it blows out in warm light), neon colors, or busy patterns that compete with the sky. I send every client a full style guide after booking so you have specific guidance for your family's look. The goal is for your outfits to feel effortless and timeless, not matchy-matchy. If you are staying in WaterColor or Rosemary Beach, I can also point you toward local shops that carry exactly the kind of coastal looks that photograph beautifully in sunset light.
What happens if it rains or the weather is bad on my session date?
Weather on the Emerald Coast is unpredictable, and I have been navigating it for over 10 years. Overcast skies actually create beautiful, even light that is incredibly flattering for beach photography. If we get genuine rain or lightning, I will work with you to reschedule to a comparable sunset date during your trip. I monitor conditions closely and communicate early so you are never left guessing. Some of the most dramatic and beautiful sunset galleries I have ever shot happened on evenings that looked questionable on paper.
Do you photograph Sunset Sessions at Destin and Panama City Beach?
Yes. While my home base is Santa Rosa Beach and I shoot most sessions along the 30A corridor, I do photograph sunset sessions in Destin, Miramar Beach, and Panama City Beach by request. Destin's Henderson Beach State Park and the quieter stretches near Crystal Beach offer beautiful, uncrowded access points for sunset. Panama City Beach sessions are booked based on availability, so reach out early if that is where you are staying. DM me SUNSET with your location and I will let you know what is available.
Is the Sunset Session good for seniors, couples, or maternity?
Absolutely. The warm, editorial quality of sunset light translates beautifully beyond family sessions. Senior portrait clients love the cinematic feel and the variety of backdrops available along 30A at golden hour. Couples get romantic, soft imagery that does not look stiff or staged. Maternity sessions in sunset light on these beaches are some of my all-time favorite work…the combination of natural light, soft color, and the emotion of that season of life creates images that are genuinely timeless. If you are planning a senior session, couples session, or maternity session along 30A, the Sunset Session is designed exactly for you.
